Narratives

Updated: Aug 25, 2020

This is where I attempt to deconstruct the specialty coffee industry in India with an objective to highlight:

  • How the specialty coffee industry is organised

  • How this space is evolving with time

  • The hidden forces directing this evolution

While this might seem like a simple index of blogs, I need a few months to organise my efforts into seeking the facts, validating the conjectures and ironing out any creases via discussions with players across the gamut, and eventually put them across as insights which contribute to the Indian specialty coffee narrative. This segment in Project 2.2 is expected to see a massive reorganization every few weeks until I am able to create a 360-degree view of the happenings.

3 themes I see taking shape:

  1. Specialty cafes and consumers

  2. Roasters vs. Producers

  3. Money, power and politics in coffee

Update 1 (dated 9th August 2020):

I have written a piece on "Strategic choices in running a coffee business" which I intend to use as an overarching framework for the narratives section. The Master Index (below) will be reorganised once I have enough content here.
